3rd National Conference on Wind and Earthquake Engineering - NCWE2019

12-13 July 2019

After the success of the 1st and the 2nd NCWE in 2017 and 2018 respectively, once again Faculty of Civil Engineering & Earth Resources (FKASA) continues the legacy of being the pioneer in East Coast Malaysia to organize a conference on wind and earthquake engineering. This time, it was paired up with a mini-seminar entitled ISCCE – International Seminar of Sustainable Construction Engineering that was co-organised with their international partner – Beijing Jiaotong University, China.

Dr. Mohamad Idris Ali, the Chairman stated that the previous two NCWEs were co-organized with the School of Civil Engineering of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and this year, FKASA was proud to team up for the first time with another university from Indonesia which is Universitas Syiah Kuala (UNSYIAH). Co-organizing with three universities certainly adds more values and symbionts and more than 75 papers were sent to the conference from researchers all over the globe. This number has given the right momentum for this conference to attract more in the coming year.

“This year we also had a presenter from South Korea, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates to name a few, and we hope more are coming for future conferences. It’s a great start for us since we are upgrading from a colloquium to a conference” said Mr. Noram, Dean of FKASA.

The highlight of this two-days conference has always been the keynote speakers and their expertise. All four speakers are well known for their tremendous contributions in terms of knowledge and research outputs. Professor Dr. Yukio Tamura and Professor Dr. Shuyang Cao will be sharing on their expertise in wind engineering, Dr. Ade Faisal in earthquake disaster meanwhile Associate Professor Dr Guoqing Jing on his innovation related to railway engineering.

More than 50 research papers from various institutions were presented in NCWE2018 and published in IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering.
